BCFA Gudelines
1. Commitment to BCFA
Members commit to the goals and standards of the BCFA. These are:
1.To trade in a fair and ethical manner following the principles of the BCFA approved standard Terms of Business
2.To employ only trained and competent staff
3.To provide quotations and a basis of charging in writing
4.To provide a written procedure for the resolution of disputes and complaints
5.To provide products that meet both legislative requirements and
appropriate technical and performance standards, supported by
appropriate evidence where necessary i.e. test certificates.
2. Policies and Procedures
Members must have written policies and procedures, appropriate to the size of the business, addressing the following:
1.Training records for all staff and subcontractors together with a regular review of training needs
2.Skills and qualifications records for all staff and subcontractors
3.Equal opportunities policy statement together with grievance process
4.Environment policy, commitment to environmental goals including continuous improvement
5.Health and Safety policy
3. Design and Intellectual Property
1.The BCFA are affiliated to ACID and support the organisation's aims and objectives.
2.Members of the BCFA are expected to comply with both the letter and
spirit of the Membership Criteria regarding the respect of intellectual
property rights. Members are expected to adhere to a commitment that
their designs and products comply with all relevant laws and regulations
and that their employees and agents are fully aware of all such laws
and regulations.
3.Members will not deliberately or knowingly copy the designs, products
or trading style of another company or business. They will ensure that
they have documentation to prove that they own the IP rights of the
products they market or have a licence to market their products.
4. Financial Security
Members need to have been trading for two years, have a UK company registration number and an absence of inappropriate trading practices such as County Court judgement.
5. Insurance
Members maintain appropriate public liability and professional indemnity cover.
6. Complaints procedure
Members maintain a written procedure for complaints including agreement to an appropriate form of independent arbitration in the event of an unresolved dispute.
7. Client References
Members can provide evidence that at least two contract customers use their product, and are satisfied with it.

2.Encourage exceptional standards of service, innovation, and product quality.
3.Foster the industry by networking, lobbying, exhibitions, publications and Professional Development.
4.Provide independent, authoritative advice on key industry issues.
